About us

Kirkcudbright Pre-School Group was established in November 1978 by local parents with the aim of providing high quality early learning and childcare.  The group has been operating in the town for over 30 years and is very much part of the community, with good community links.  We are an ‘eco-school’ and are the first preschool group in Dumfries & Galloway to have achieved green flag status.

We are open five days a week during term-time taking children from two years six months to school age. We offer a curriculum that aims to support children in ALL aspects of their learning and development and we maintain close relationships with children and their families.  We have a low child to adult ratio, run a ‘rising fives’ group twice a week for children in their pre-school year, offer a lunch club with a pick up/drop off service to the local authority nursery and offer additional hourly ‘drop in’ sessions for members. All day care is available.

We are a committee run, non-profit making organisation with a dedicated team of staff and volunteers which works in partnership with Dumfries and Galloway Council, Early Years Scotland (EYS) and is regulated by the Care Inspectorate.

Ethos

As well as supporting children in their development, we are here for the whole family offering guidance, support and advice; always willing to ‘go the extra mile’.  We believe in offering a broad range of learning experiences that cater for children’s interests, and in which children lead the learning, but which are underpinned by national/local policy requirements.  Through these experiences, children are assisted by knowledgeable, trained staff who see themselves as working in a series of partnerships with –

  • children
  • parents/families/carers
  • fellow professionals, both newly qualified and experienced
  • outside agencies.

There is no place for formal teaching in Kirkcudbright Pre-School group, where the emphasis is placed on learning through PLAY.
