The staff are a team of dedicated employees who have all been PVG checked, have SVQ or equivalent qualifications in Child Care, are registered with a professional body and have a wide range of experience working with early years. They receive First Aid Training and regularly attend courses and conferences to keep up to date with education, care, development and play.
The staff are responsible for:
- interpreting and delivering the curriculum
- keeping records for each child throughout their pre-school years
- taking care of children with additional needs
Young children learn best in small groups with plenty of one to one attention and at each session there is 1 member of staff to 6 or 8 children depending on the age group.
Sarah Morris – Pre-school Manager
Sarah Morris is a Montessori teacher for pre-school children. She obtained her Early Childhood diploma in 2015 from the Montessori Centre in London. Sarah spent 16 years living and working in Kiev (Ukraine) where she had her daughter. It was an interest in the development of her child that led her down the route of studying for a Montessori diploma. She spent one year as a teaching assistant in a Montessori nursery in Kiev (Ukraine) before moving back to her home town of London. She worked in another Montessori nursery in Ealing, west London, where she taught ‘school readiness’ to thirteen 4 year olds in the pre-school group. After moving up to Scotland, Sarah spent the following year in Dumfries working as a senior nursery nurse in an outdoor learning nursery implementing the curriculum for excellence. Then she returned to Kirkcudbright to work with adults with learning disabilities.
Sarah has used her skills in yoga, drawing and music to help children hone their fine and gross motor skills.
Sarah is currently studying maths in her spare time with the Open University and enjoys teaching different aspects of numeracy.
